"Wales has traveled far and wide documenting the use of numbers in a variety of situations, and ultimately these photo-text pieces were made into a book. It's the book format that emerges as the most successful aspect of this project, as the work seems to gain in power as it shrinks in scale, admitting intimacy as an ingredient in the overall concept. Wales' work is driven by a kind of happy assumption that his images and text go hand in hand, and somehow they do, without straining credulity or setting up a shotgun wedding."
